For gallant conduct and devotion to duty during the operations previous to the capture of PASSCHENDAELE form 26th Oct. to 6th Nov. 1917. This N.C.O. was in charge of a party of Sappers and infantry on the maintenance of Plank Road from KANSAS CROSS. The road was subjected to severe enemy shell-fire many direct hits were made and this N.C.O. by his determination and initiative had all breaks quickly repaired. Allowing traffic to proceed forward with little delay. By his unfailing energy and devotion to duty he materially assisted the operation.
