RESEARCH INFORMATION

Uploader's Notes:

Son of Thomas Morgan Harris and Annie Jane Harris (nee Stewart); husband of Beatrice Helen Harris (nee Phillips) married January 20, 1910

Lawren Harris was one of Canada's Group of Seven artists, and some say that the Group of Seven would not have formed without the encouragement of Harris. It is difficult to find any military information about Harris because he had a nervous breakdown in early 1918 as a result of the accidental death of Tom Thompson by drowning (another of the Group of Seven), and the death of his brother, Howard in the war. He was discharged in May 1918, following the nervous breakdown.

Assigned as a Musketry Instruction Officer at Camp Borden

No attestation papers for Lawren or Howard are available on LAC.

A little more information is available here http://www.heritagetrust.on.ca/CorporateSite/media/oht/PDFs/Lawren-Harris-ENG.pdf

He was awarded the Companion to the Order of Canada in 1970.
