Military Medal (Hill 70)
Description: From the regimental diaries:
On 16/8/17 on Hill 70, this N.C.O. established a block in the enemy communication trench, placing it as far forward as our barrage would permit. He then did his utmost to keep the post supported with bombs, but as the enemy were making repeated attempts to drive the post out, the supply could not be kept up. He was severely wounded while gathering bombs from the dead. His determination and coolness in handling this post undoubtedly saved us many casualties, if not the possession of the CHALK PIT. He was a valourous soldier throughout.
