Red Deer News, 18 July 1917, pg. 1:
Mr. and Mrs. Thos. S. Miller received word on Wednesday morning last, that their oldest son, Kendal, had been killed in action. He was a bright intelligent young man, and manly for his age, not being yet eighteen years of age. He joined up with Col. Robinson's battalion and was drafted to another battalion at the front. Nothing could stop him from doing what he considered his duty to his King and Country, and his noble sacrifice should be an inspiration and lesson for all to follow. His memory will ever be kept green by the citizens of his native city. His stricken parents will have the sympathy of the entire community in their great affliction.
