Red Deer News, 19 September 1917, pg. 1:

Pte. L. Nurcombe, who lost both feet on the firing line last year, reached Calgary yesterday and will arrive in Red Deer today; we cannot say which train. We hope he will have a hearty welcome.

Red Deer News, 17 October 1917, pg. 1:

Pte. Leppard was first wounded by being buried in a trench in June, 1916, for four hours, with Pte. L. Nurcombe. Recovering from this he was again seriously wounded in the right shoulder and left side with shrapnel at Ypres, August 20, 1916, and a piece of shrapnel still remains in his side. He joined on with the 12th C.M.R.'s, and was in the 2nd troop of "C" squadron which has given such a good account of itself on the battle line.
