Description: From the Regimental Diary:
On 15/8/17, on Hill 70, the company Sergeant Major being wounded, this N.C.O. took over his duties and carried on in a most conspicuous manner. After the capture of the objective, he did exceptionally good work in assisting to organize his company and consolidate his position.
On 16/8/17, after the capture of the CHALK PIT, he again did excellent work in consolidating the position. He was buried by an enemy shell but continued to carry on and made light of the sever shaking up which he received. His coolness and cheerfulness did much to encourage the men in a most serious situation.
