Description: From the Regimental Diary:
On 15/8/17, on Hill 70, this N.C.O. led his platoon with great dash and when his company sergeant major was wounded, he was selected to take over the duties, which he did with efficiency. On 16/8/17, he did excellent work in organizing and equipping the company for the attack on the CHALK PIT. After the capture of the CHALK PIT he showed great initiave in placing his post and pressing forward to make the attack a complete success. His work in assisting to consolidate the captured position was of the highest order.
