Description: From the regimental Diary:
On 16/8/17, on Hill 70, in the attack on the CHALK PIT, this soldier, when in command of a LEWIS GUN section used his gun with great effect on the enemy. Just when he was about to enter the CHALK PIT, an enemy bomb exploded very close to him knocking him down and away from his gone. Although badly shaken and dazed, he recovered his gun crossing the CHALK PIT and put his gun into action, when he was again wounded seriously. He set a very fine example to his men.
