On 15/8/17, on Hill 70, the platoon officer being wounded, this N.C.O. at once took over command, and while there was still a heavy barrage on our old Front Line, took his platoon to the Battalion trench dump and carried S.A.A. bombs and wire forward to the battalion objective. This platoon was called on to do exceptionally dangerous and disagreeable work, but through the care and skill of this N.C.O., the party completed their work without a casualty.
