Born 16th April, 1888, at Eckington, Derbyshire, England. Father, George Henry Wells, Colliery Proprietor (deceased). Educated at Chesterfield School. Entered the service of the Bank, 7th January, 1913. Enlisted, 22nd July, 1915, from Regina branch, in 68th Canadian Battalion, with the rank of Lieutenant. Transferred to 48th Canadian Battalion (England), 25th September, 1915; 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles (France), 2nd April, 1916. Promoted Captain, 24th September, 1917. Taken prisoner of war at Third Battle of Ypres, 2nd June, 1916. Served as Paymaster to Senior British Internment Officer, in Holland, 28th May, y 1918, to 11th November, 1918; Staff Paymaster to British Repatriation Commission, 11th November, 1918, to 12th April, 1919.
MENTIONED IN DESPATCHES for Services as Paymaster while interned in Holland, 1918.

Wounded in the side, 2nd June, 1916.

Returned to duty with the Bank, 13th September, 1919. Retired from the service of the Bank, 20th December, 1920. 156, 269, 270.
