Description: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in carrying out a dayllight reconnaissance prior to an attack. He encountered an enemy bombing party of four, two of whom he killed after a stiff fight, in which they rushed and endeavoured to bomb him. The information obtained by himself and his officer during the reconnaissance was of inestimable value and largely due to his great coolness and pluck when faced by an awkward situation.
