Description: During the attack on Damery on 15th August, 1918, when the enemy were counter-attacking, he was with a party that went to the assistance of a hard-pressed company. Taking charge of all men he met he led them forward, assisting in the capture of many prisoners and personally accounting for a large number of the enemy. Later, when most of the N.C.O.'s were out of action, he took the duties of CSM upon himself and rendered valuable help in reorganizing the company against a further counter-attack. Throughout the day he displayed the utmost skill and courage.
