Military Medal (Passchendaele)
Description: For gallant conduct and devotion to duty during the operations previous to the capture of PASSCHENDAELE form 26th Oct. to 6th Nov. 1917. This N.C.O. was in charge of a party of Sappers and infantry on the maintenance of Plank Road from KANSAS CROSS. The road was subjected to severe enemy shell-fire many direct hits were made and this N.C.O. by his determination and initiative had all breaks quickly repaired. Allowing traffic to proceed forward with little delay. By his unfailing energy and devotion to duty he materially assisted the operation.

Distinguished Conduct Medal (Period Award)
Description: From 25th February to 16th September, 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Every night in May he had charge of a convoy of lorries and a loading party hauling material from Boisleux au Mont. The party was shelled almost nightly, causing casualties. By his fine example and devotion to duty he got material out for important road work. On the nights 17th to 23rd June, 1918, his sub-section built an emergency R.A.F. and Report Centre I the front line at the brickfield Neuville Vitasse. Again, by his coolness and example to all ranks, this important work was rushed to completion for the raid on 24th/25th June.
