Son of Mr. and Mrs. John Goodale of Peakirk, Lincolnshire; husband of Kathleen May Goodale of St. Edmundsbury, Royston, Hertfordshire, England

Born 14th August, 1894, at Peterborough, England. Father, John Goodale, Farmer (deceased). Educated at King School, Peterborough, and King School, Grantham. Entered the service of the Bank, 12th February, 1914. Enlisted, 4th August, 1914, from Wadena branch, in Lord Strathcona's Horse (R.C.) with the rank of Trooper. Transferred to 15th Reserve Battalion, attached Royal Air Force, Independent Squadron, May, 1917. Promoted Lance-Corporal, February, 1917; Lieutenant, May, 1917. Principal action: Festubert, May, 1915. Returned to England for Commission in March, 1917.
NOTE: Lieutenant Goodale was engaged with the Independent Air Force in long distance bombing.
His formation was attacked by enemy anti-aircraft and aeroplanes, after having bombed the town of Trèves, and he was last seen being driven down, hit in both petrol tanks. He and his observer, Second Lieutenant Prentice of the United States Army, were buried in St. Jure Cemetery, Alsace-Lorraine. 23, 30.
On the outbreak of war, Lieutenant Goodale was at Fishing Lake, a summer resort near Wadena. He undertook to enlist immediately if he could swim across the lake, a distance of two miles. He was successful and enlisted that day, being the first man to do so from Wadena.
