A rosary carried by Pte. Whitton is held in the collection of the Canadian War Museum. It is featured in their online display - image.

According to the CWM, Whitton had been scouting German positions at Vimy Ridge and was wounded in the head by a shell. During his transport to an aid station, a Franciscan monk gave him a rosary. Whitton was returned to the front and wounded again at Amiens in August 1918, but was again returned to the front. He was one of the first ten soldiers to enter Mons on November 11, 1918.
