Served with the 69th Annapolis Regiment of the Militia from 1883 reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1904, commanding until 1909. His son Clarence died as a result of injuries suffered in the Halifax explosion in January of 1918 while serving in the Composite Battalion in Halifax.
