Has two sets of attestation papers.

On the later attestation, Mays described his military experience as two years with the 1st Battalion C.E.F. His medical description noted that he had his name and address tatooed on himself.

Mays originally enlisted 16 September 1914 at Valcartier Quebec as a part of the first Canadian Contingent.

At the time he was listed as married to Mrs. Mary Mays of 409 George St. Sarnia and had no military experience. There is a note that he was discharged 15 September 1916 from the Quebec Discharge Depot in good health.
