W. W. Nasmyth's attestation notes that he had previously served in South Africa as the Caption of "C" Squadron, 3rd Canadian Mounted Rifles.

Nasmyth originally enlisted with the first Canadian Contingent, and this attestation was signed by Lt.-Col. R. L. Boyle of the 10th Battalion, Alberta Regiment. Boyle was later killed.

During the 2nd battle of Ypres, Nasmyth's brother was killed. W. W. Nasmyth was shot through the lung. He was later invalided back to Calgary, Alberta, and placed on the staff of the commandant at Sarcee Camp.

An Officers' Declaration Paper for Nasmyth was completed in November 1915 and was for the 89th Battalion C.E.F. On this form his wife's address changed to 170 Janette Av., Windsor, Ontario. He indicated that he had previously served with the 10th Battalion.

Dr. Nasmyth is mentioned in the following article.

The Canadian Medical Association Journal, Vol. V, No. 10, October 1915, pg. 297:-

Major W. W. Nasmyth, of Youngstown, Alberta, has been promoted to the rank of colonel. He has so far recovered from his wounds that he hopes soon to return to the front; at present he is at Calgary engaged in recruiting and training men for service overseas.
