Uploader's Notes:

There are two forms for this soldier, the first is an attestation as filled in above, and the second is an OFFICERS' DECLARATION PAPER for the 218th Battalion C.E.F. which is dated 10 March 1916. He states that his former military service was "Revolution - South America".

Cornwall's photo appeared in the Red Deer News on 07 June 1916, pg. 1, with the following caption:

LIEUTENANT-COLONEL JAMES KENNEDY CORNWALL of Edmonton, Alberta, member of the Alberta Legislature for Peace River, who has been appointed to command a new Overseas Battalion to be raised in Edmonton district. Mr. Cornwall is one of the most romantic and interesting figures in the West, beginning life as a newsboy in Buffalo, N.Y., and later earning the title of "Apostle of the North" by engaging in every occupation the wild Northwest life of a few years ago provided.
