Attestation papers show birthplace as Brandon, Manitoba; Virtual Memorial says "native of Liverpool, England".

[Private Army Canadian Infantry 185th Battalion On August 30 he was arrested for refusing to obey an order and assaulting a military policeman. He was court martialled on September 13, and awarded 60 days' detention. On February 23, 1918 the 185th Battalion was disbanded and absorbed into the 17th Reserve Battalion.
Private Army Canadian Infantry 17th Reserve Battalion Admitted to Shorncliffe Military Hospital with Gonorrhea on September 16. Four days later he was transferred to Barnwell Hospital, Cambridge. He was discharged on October 10. On October 12 he reported to 17th Reserve Battalion under escort. On October 16 he was admitted to Cherryhinton Military Hospital in detention. On January 13, 1917 he was transferred to Etchinghill Hospital for further treatment. He was finally discharged from hospital to the 17th Reserve Battalion on May 10, 1917.
