RESEARCH INFORMATION
Son of James Strachan Cartwright and Jane Elizabeth Cartwright (nee Young); husband of Jessie Carnegie Cartwright (nee Gibson) married October 8, 1915; husband of Mabel Ethelwyn Cartwright (nee Tremaine)
Wounded at Festubert May 28, 1915 and again at Ploegsteert in September 13, 1915. Served 1916 to 1918 as A.D.C. to three successive Generals Commanding the 3rd Canadian Division (Mercer, Lipsett and Loomis). Awarded Military Cross in 1917 for 'courage in face of the enemy'
He was appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada on December 22, 1949 and became its chief justice on September 1, 1967. He served on the Supreme Court for 20 years and retired on March 23, 1970
