Acland attended the University of Toronto. The Grand Trunk Pacific was not yet completed when he went to Prince Rupert, BC, to work at the Daily News. He claimed to have walked from Prince Rupert to Winnipeg upon leaving that job.
In 1929 he published a novel entitled All Else is Folly, a Tale of War and Passion (New York: Coward McCann).
