Saskatchewan Virtual War Memorial

[Private Army Canadian Infantry 28th Battalion A Company Mobilized with the 52nd Regiment, Prince Albert Volunteers contingent. Battalion formed at Winnipeg on November 01, 1914, and trained there for the next six months. Sailed with the 28th Bn aboard the SS Northland from Montreal to Plymouth between May 29 to June 07, 1915. The battalion was sent to Dibgate Camp, Shorncliffe. He was admitted to hospital on August 30, so did not cross to France with his battalion. He was posted to the 32nd Reserve Battalion on September 15. On December 07, he was posted to France as a reinforcement. From January 09-16, 1916, he took a machine gunner's course. On January 29, he was again in hospital with a sprained ankle. He fell ill with bronchitis while in hospital, and did not return to the 28th Battalion until April 06. On July 18 he was wounded in the chest while on a night time working party near St Eloi, Belgium. He was evacuated to England aboard the HS Brighton on July 28, and posted to the Canadian Casualty Assembly Camp, (later the Saskatchewan Regimental Depot) for administrative purposes. He was posted back to the 28th Battalion on March 23, 1918. At some point between April and October he was awarded the Military Medal, but his file has no details. He was killed in action on October 11, 1918 during the battalion's attack on Iwuy, France during the battle for Cambrai. Military Medal not stated ]
