Private James Agnew served with the 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion, CEF, following the breakup of the 160th Battalion in February of 1918.

Two pages of the 1st Battalion War Diaries describe a failed German attack that commenced early in the day on April 5th, and involved around 100 German soldiers who advanced against the Canadians. It appears that Pte. Agnew was killed during this attack. The 1st Battalion casualties for this incident were: 1 officer wounded, 7 other ranks killed.

The diary entries in question are:

War Diary - April 5, 1918, part A
War Diary - April 5, 1918, part B

List of the other 1st Battalion men who were killed on that day, probably in the same incident. All are buried at Faubourg-D'Amiens Cemetery, Arras, Pas de Calais, France.
