Uploader's Notes:

Attestation papers list dob as 1897. Was 1898 per Susan Rutledge. The family story goes that once he was over fighting, my Great-Grandmother found out and she wrote and said that he was under-age. The official letter arrived at his unit saying that he was to be sent home - but it was too late, he had been killed that morning.

Newspaper articles are posted on the photo collection page within his Canadian Virtual Memorial entry.

According to a Toronto Evening Telegram article dated December 6th, 1916 (original to appear shortly at the above link), Compton had been in Canada about two years. He originally enlisted with the 95th Battalion, and was later transferred. His brother Pte. Charles Duncan Compton was killed at Vimy Ridge.
