Uploader's Notes: Son of John Ellison and Eliza Maude Ellison (nee Semmens) of Birkenhead England. John Ellison was Christened 31 Dec 1893 in Tranmere Cheshire England In 1901 he lived with his parents and 1 brother and 3 sisters On 18 Feb 1904 now age 10 John left Liverpool by the Bavarian arriving in Halifax Nova Scotia on 27 Feb 1904. John Ellison was sent by Mrs Birt of the Liverpool Sheltering Home with final destination Knowlton. Quebec. In 1911 18 year old John Ellison is employed as a Domestic in the home Donald Morrison in Lochiel Glengarry Ontario . I feel John Ellison joined a Glengarry Company of the Ottawa Headquartered 43rd Regiment of The Duke of Cornwall's Own Rifles and was on Exercises with them in Kingston in the fall of 1914 and given temporary Service Number 859. The 21st Eastern Ontario Canadian Infantry Battalion was authorized on 7 November 1914 at Kingston Ontario and John Ellison joined them on their start up date of 7 November 1914. On 6 May 1915 Private Ellison and other original 21st Battalion sail for England from Montreal. On 15 September 1915 Pte Ellison is in France on his way to St Omer. On 13 Nov 1916 Pte Ellison is promoted to Lance Corporal. On 9 April 1917 former Home Child L/Cpl John Ellison is killed during an attack on Vimy Ridge.
