Discharged due to demobilization on May 26, 1919. Played on the 1919-20 Winnipeg Falcons Hockey team, winners of the first Olympic Gold Medal for hockey.
Jacob Walter Byron was mentioned in an article which appeared in the Calgary Herald on October 25th, 1916, pg. 9. He had arrived in Calgary and was recruiting for the 223rd Scandinavian Battalion. Original image

[Corporal Army Canadian Infantry 223rd Battalion Promoted to Lance Corporal on July 31; and to Corporal on November 07. Sailed with the 223rd Battalion aboard SS Justicia from Halifax to Liverpool, May 03-14, 1916. Posted to Shorncliffe on arrival.
Private Army Canadian Infantry 11th Reserve Battalion Reverted in Private on being taken on strength with the 11th Reserve Battalion.
Corporal Army Canadian Infantry 27th Battalion
Proceeded to France on November 16. Attached to the Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp on November 22. Joined the 27thBattalion at Neuville St Vaast on December 02. Served for the duration of the war with this battalion.
Promoted to Lance Corporal August 28, 1918; and to Corporal on February 25, 1919.
Awarded Good Conduct Badge on April 01, 1918.
The 27th Battalion proceeded to England on April 12/13, 1919 and was posted to Canadian Corps Camp Witley. The battalion returned to Canada aboard SS Northland from Liverpool to Halifax, May 13-23, 1919.
