Details of Death
Private Phelps who was a member of the patrol section of his Battalion advanced with the leading wave if the attaching force, during the attack South East of Thelus, on the morning of 9th April, 1917. About 6:00 a.m. after passing the first objective he was hit in the back by a piece of shrapnel from an enemy shell. His wound was dressed and he was taken to a Dressing Station. His wound was again dressed and he was placed in an ambulance but he died while on the way to an hospital.
