Uploader's Notes: Howard Graham moves back from Toronto to be with his relatives in Trenton Ontario and start his Legal practice in 1921 and is called to the Ontario Bar in 1922.Howard Graham joins a number of Trenton/Belleville organizations including the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment in 1923( Life long friend Angus Mowart now a Trenton librarian and a injured WW1 veteran had joined the Trenton Hasty P Cadet Corps in 1921).Howard D Graham becomes a Commissioned Officer on 13 May 1923, a Captain in January 1930, and a Major with seniority from 23 August 1934.Howard Graham is elected Mayor of Trenton in 1933 after serving with both the School Board and Trenton Town Council.Howard Graham is the first Trentonian to be appointed King's Council in June of 1933.During WW2 Howard Graham became the 11th Commanding Officer of the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment in 1940 as a Lieutenant Colonel and he served in Britain, France, Sicily, and Italy. From 1946 to 1948 Brigadier Graham, a King's Council Lawyer, was the Senior Canadian Army Liaison Officer and Army Advisor to the Canadian High Commission in London England. From 1948 to 1950 Brigadier General Graham was Vice Chief of General Staff of the Canadian Army. From 1951 to 1955 Major General Graham was Commander of Central Command in Oakville Ontario.From 1955 until 1958 LGEN Graham was Chief of General Staff (CGS). In retirement in 1958 H D Graham was Secretary for the Queens visits to Canada in 1959 and 1967. From 1961 to 1966 Howard Graham was president of the Toronto Stock exchange. Lieutenant General Howard Douglas Graham OC, CVO,CBE, DSO, ED CD died 28 September 1986 in Oakville. His autobiography Citizen and Soldier:The Memoirs of LGEN Howard Graham was published in 1987. LGEN Graham and his wife Jean Marjorie Lowe who was born 6 May 1897 are buried together in the Evergreen Cemetery near Trenton.
Uploader's Research notes: The Graham family returned back to Canada in the Spring 1905 from Buffalo New York.Howard Graham was a Trenton High School graduate who like his childhood and lifelong friend Angus McGill Mowat was active in The Trenton High School Cadet Corps and achieved NCO rank.Howard Graham was part of the Signal Corps of the Trenton High School Cadet Corps when he drove to Belleville in a sleigh to enlist on 6 March 1916. Howard Graham worked as a supply clerk in Belleville before going overseas. By 1917 Howard Graham was a Sgt in the 150th Battalion but was transferred as a clerk with the Headquarters of Canadian Corps Artillery. In September 1919 Howard Graham entered Osgoode Hall and articled for Major Herbert Macdonald Mowat (11 April 1862-24 April 1928) of the Toronto firm of Mowat, MacLennan, Hunter and Parkinson. Howard Graham graduated with the short Veterans course as a Lawyer on 19 May 1921 ( when Major Herbert Macdonald Mowat was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of Ontario in 1921 Howard's time as an articled student was also shortened).
