Son of Napoleon Jean Baptiste Bercier and Emilie Bercier (nee Paul); younger brother of Joseph Bercier (Service No. 3348962) and Henry Bercier (Service No. 3354849)

Israel was Metis, whose parents were originally from Manitoba. The family moved to North Dakota for a few years, where Israel and other siblings were born. The family returned to Manitoba before the 1911 census and settled in the Duck Lake area, in particular, Boggy Creek and San Clara. (Source: Family history and research documented on ancestry.ca).
