Military Cross For conspicuous gallantry in action. He led his party across 200 yards of “No Man’s Land”, and although he had his knee severely wrenched going over, he continued to carry on. Later he organised a small party, and himself helped to carry in the wounded under heavy fire.

Died of pneumonia at No. 12 Canadian General Hospital. He was initially buried at the Bramshott Churchyard in Bramshott, Hampshire, England, but the body was exhumed and sent to Canada for permanent burial in Kincardine, Ontario at the request of his parents
He was an oarsman on the Argonauts rowing team before the war
