Uploader's Notes: Son of James and Eli Stanley, of Manchester; husband of Jane Stanley, of 9859-80th Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Uploader's Research notes: John Stanley originally signed up in Canada, at Edmonton, Alberta on January 12, 1916. His application was rejected because of his health. His regimental number was 1048673. Next of kin was Jane Stanley of 9637 81st Av., Edmonton, Alberta. Suspect he lied about his age; attestation papers state 1868 as year of birth. Somehow he must have made his way to Britain and was accepted into the British Forces with the Royal Engineers, Inland Water Transport. British records state he was born 1858.
