Private Frank Stanley Beastall

Frank Beastall is listed as a bricklayer, who likely learned the trade from his father, Francis Beastall, who was a builder, formally of The Nook in Tickhill. There is a row of flats on Shadyside in Hexthorpe that has the name Beastall cast into the roof capping that I suspect Frank may have helped build with his brother Tom and their father.

Frank had three sisters, Millie, Amy, and Emily. Millie married Harold Hawkin (of York) who was with the 3rd Canadian Tunneling Co. and died of blood poisoning in France in 1918. Amy married Legay Kirkland (of Tickhill) who served with the Canadian Artillery.

Frank Beastall, Harold Hawkin, Legay Kirkland, and Frederick John Milthorp emigrated to Canada together in 1912 and all enlisted in the Canadian Army in March 1915. Of the 4, only Legay and Fred survived. After Harold's death, Millie owned a boarding house in Scarborough until the 1960s, later living on Shadyside Hexthorpe, across the street from the building constructed by her father and brothers. She never remarried.

Frank succumbed to pneumonia and gangrene in Winnipeg on 26 February 1915 during training. He was buried in Winnipeg (Brookside) Cemetery, Manitoba, Grave Reference: MS-0006-0 on 03 March 1915.
