Lived in Prince Rupert, British Columbia prior to Vancouver.

Was buried in an explosion in Courcelette, France in September of 1916. He suffered temporary shell shock, shell concussion and permanent hearing impairment, which was treated and improved slightly, but was serious enough that he was eventually declared medically unfit for duty on 25/4/1918 in Vancouver.

Conduct and character listed as "exemplary" in discharge papers.

Corporal Chapman died of pneumonia in Vancouver on Christmas Day, 1918.
