George Beverly was born at Cottown, near Rhynie, Aberdeenshire on Aug 8, 1878 the second son of John Beverly, carpenter, and Margaret Beverly (nee Brown). George emigrated to Canada in 1905 having served for four years as a Private in the 4th Batt, The Gordon Highlanders. When he enlisted at Toronto Recruiting Depot he joined the 170th Battalion.
The extract from The Marquis De Ruvigny's Roll Of Honour gives further details and confirms George was later transferred to the 20th Battalion C.E.F. ’Pte, 20th battn CEF, 2nd of John Beverly of Cottown, Rhynie, Carpenter. by his wife Margaret, dau of John Brown, b, Cottown aforesaid, 8th Aug 1878; edu there; went to Canada in May 1905 and settled in Toronto as a contractor; enlisted early in 1916, served with the CEF in France and Flanders and died at the general hospital in Toronto Sept 15, 1918 from wounds received in action in Aug 1917,
