His death was mentioned in a letter written by his friend Jack Lardie - link to letter.

Circumstances of Death Register: "While asleep in his dug-out in the front line on the morning of the 17th November 1915 an enemy whiz-bang shell exploded wounding him severely. He was taken to the Dressing Station where he had every attention but expired the same afternoon about 4 o'clock"
