CEF Burial Registers - Killed in Action. Shortly before the attack commenced at Passchendaele, Sergeant Nichols with three other signallers proceeded to lay telephone lines from Battalion Headquarters to all Companies in their new positions. They had nearly completed this undertaking and were laying the line from "C" Company to "B" Company, when the enemy began sniping. Sergeant Nichols was wounded in the side of the neck, and owing to his dangerous condition was unable to be moved, dying about seven hours later.
