Uploader's Notes:

Son of John Henry Elson and Fannie Elson (nee Blackham); younger brother of Charles Elson (Service No. 311423) and Thomas 'Tom' Elson (Service No. 862888) and older brother of George Elson (Service No. 172064)

This soldier was first assigned Service No. 138566, but for a reason not explained in the service record, he was reassigned Service No. 140067 and proceeded to mobilize to England under the latter number. On June 12, 1917, the Officer in charge of Records in London asserted a change reverting to the original Service No. It appears that the records for this soldier and for Albert Graham Elson got mixed up during the recruitment of the 75th Battalion, in which both men attested. Eventually Albert Graham Elson continued to use Service No. 140067 and was struck off from the 75th Battalion as a Deserter, but reappeared in the to the CASC. LAC has incorrectly combined the records for this soldier with Albert Graham Elson Service No. 140067

Died of appendicitis

Uploader's Research notes: Although his name appears on the 75th Battalion Nominal Roll, under incorrect Service No. 140067, it appears that there was much confusion over this man, Arthur Elson (Service No. 138566), and Albert Graham Elson (Service No. 140067), both of whom attested with the 75th Battalion in July 1915. Even the Nominal Roll has the name and service number confused [Private Army Canadian Infantry 75th Battalion B Company Private Army Canadian Infantry 3rd Battalion Died of appendicitis ]
