RESEARCH INFORMATION
Mentioned in the CBC Flanders' fields radio series by Lt. E.V. McKague who said Sjt Quinn had been hit by a sniper's bullet and fell into the canal. Lt. McKague erroneously suggested he had been killed at 10.45 on November 11, 1918. Sjt Quinn is mentioned in the War Diary report of "A" Company, Canadian Corps Cyclists for November 9, 1918:
"Sgt Quinn and three others left at 14.30 hours and proceeded along the canal in p.9, p.10 & p.11. they located enemy M.G.'s at p.12.a.23-p.12.a.32-p.12.c.& p.6. Two men were killed and one wounded on this patrol."
The other soldier killed was Lance-Corporal Delbert Bean, M.M., #27303.
His Circumstamces of Death card says:
"Killed in Action".
Whilst out in charge of a contact patrol with three men, ahead of the Infantry line at a point on the CONDE CANAL about 1000 yards west of MONS at about 3.00 o'clock on the afternoon of November 9, 1918, he was instantly killed when the party were fired upon by a concealed enemy machine gun.
