Description: Far a high display of courage and devotion in carrying messages and bombs continually between Battalion H.Q.’s the Ypres Ramparts and Zillebeke Bund. On 23rd June 1916 when a shortage of bombs occurred Pte. Williamson was continually up and down the communication trench carrying up and messages. He made six trips in all and on the last occasion when bringing up two boxes of bombs was stopped at Zillebeke by an Officer and ordered to wait owing to the heavy artillery fire. He begged to be allowed to proceed which was permitted as the fire had slackened down and he reached Battalion H.Q.’s safely with the bombs. on 4th he carried messages in the trenches and when his Officer was wounded he accompanied him out and rendered the greatest assistance. Nearly all this work was carried out in battered communication trenches under heavy fire and required courage and tenacity to continue for such a length of time.
