Description: For great gallantry and devotion to duty on September 2nd, 3rd and 5th in the Dury Arras sector. He was in charge of the communication of the battalion during the above days and under heavy shelling personally superintended the laying of the lines and their maintenance during Sept 3/4th until the battalion was relieved. His work was of the greatest value in keeping battalion headquarters in touch with what was going on. Auth LG 31481 30-7-19

Son of George and Janet Baird, of St. Andrews, Scotland; husband of Daisy E. M. Baird, of 10, Grant Rd., Addiscombe, Croydon, England. Served for 2 years 6 months in the 7th Battalion, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders).

His Circumstances of Death card indicates: "Died of Wounds, gunshot wounds right leg and hip, fractured femur. This officer was wounded by enemy machine gun bullets while taking part in military operations at MARCHIPONT near VALENCIENNES on the morning of 6th November, 1918. He was evacuated to No. 8 General Hospital, Rouen where he subsequently succumbed to his wounds."

Prior to No. 8 General Hospital, he had been sent to No. 23 Casualty Clearing Station, November 9, 1918 where he had been listed as dangerously wounded.

Wife was Daisy Evelyn Muriel Baird, 10 Grant Road, Addiscombe, Croydon, Surrey, England.

Had been appointed Battalion Intelligence Officer, October 10, 1918.
