Son of George and the late Margaret Bowie, of Nairn, Scotland.

[Private Army Canadian Infantry 19th Reserve Battalion Private Army Canadian Infantry 46th BattalionProceeded to France on being posted, and attached to the Canadian Base Depot, Havre on arrival in France. He was attached to the Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp four days later and proceeded to Arras.
Although taken on strength of the 46th Battalion, he does not appear to have actually reported to that battalion.
Private Army Canadian Infantry 196th Battalion A CompanyA Company was also known as Manitoba Company.
Sailed with the 196th Battalion aboard SS Southland from Halifax to Liverpool, November 01-11, 1916. The battalion was posted to Seaford Camp on arrival in England.
On December 06, 1916 the Seaford Medical Board found that he was underage for overseas service. He was classified as Category A4, Permanent Base Duties due to age. The Board also recommended that he be posted to the Young Soldiers Battalion until after his 19th Birthday.
Private Army Canadian Infantry 15th Reserve BattalionThe 15th Reserve Battalion absorbed the 19th Reserve Battalion as part of the reorganization of the reserve battalion system.
On October 31, 1917 he was attached to the Young Soldiers Battalion (formerly the 34th Battalion) at Bramshott. He was attached to Wandsworth Detnetion Barracks while in detention from January 01-18, 1918, (charge not stated on file) He ceased to be attached to the Young Soldiers Battalion effective May 30, 1918, following his 19th Birthday.
Private Army Canadian Infantry 43rd BattalionJoined the 43rd Battalion at Haute Asvesnes, near Arras on August 26.
He was wounded in the right leg by shrapnel on October 01, 1918 at Cambrai, and eventually evacuated to the 26th General Hospital, Etaples. On October 09 he was reported as seriously ill, but there are no details or medical case sheets on his CEF file. He died of his wounds on November 02, 1918.
