A notice in the Toronto Star published February 10th, 1916, captioned "Varsity Men Accepted / Forty More Get Commissions in the British Forces" indicated that H. S. Edmonds was one of 40 men who made applications for commissions in the Imperial Forces, and that these were accepted by Major-General Gwatkin, Chief of the General Staff, Ottawa.
