Uploader's Notes: Andrew Brookfield was the son of Mr. Thomas and Isabella (Johnson) Brookfield, of Lancashire, England. Andrew came to Canada as a 8 year old Barnardo Home Child with his 10 year old brother George that left Liverpool England on 21 July 1904 on the ship Southwark and arrived at Quebec City on 31 July 1904 with destination the Barnardo Homes in Toronto Ontario In 1911 Andrew is Indentured to William Henderson in Nissouri East Oxford North Ontario Canada.From 13 August to 21 September 1914 a 20 year old Andrew Brookfield is at Camp Valcartier on the pay list of the 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion ( Western Ontario) that was created on 2 September 1914 from Military District 1 in Western Ontario. The 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion sailed for England on 3 October 1914 on the ship Laurentic that arrived in England on 14 October 1914 with 45 Officers and 1121 men. After training in Aldershot this Battalion was sent to France on 9 Feb 1915 without Private Brookfield. On 3 April 1915 Private Brookfield is in France where he rejoins his 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion as part of the 1st Canadian Division, 1st Canadian Infantry Brigade where it saw action at Ypres and along the Western front. Private Andrew Brookfield is injured on 25 April 1915 and has Gonorrhea again and is admitted to hospital. Home Child Andrew Broockfield dies of his wounds at No 14 General Hospital Wimereux France on 27 April 1915. In addition to his Father Mr Thomas Brookfield of Lancashire England Home Child Andrew Brookfield leaves a sister in law Mrs May Brookfield ( brother James Brookfield) of Ingersoll later Woodstock Ontario and his brother 7734 Private George Brookfield who came over as a British Home Child with him in 1904.
