Son of Charles and Bessie Layzell, of 166, Bagot St. West, Kingston, Ontario. Native of Brighton, England.
Indicated he was serving with "C" Battery, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery.
His attestation papers give no month or day for his birth and his birthplace is given as Kingston, Ontario though his CWGC indicate he was born in England.
His death was mentioned in the Lethbridge Daily Herald, 1st December, 1916 edition on page 4 as being the youngest soldier at 16 to be killed at that time.
