Description: When his Platoon Officer and Sergeant had both been killed while attacking a machine-gun post, he took command, and, reorganising his men, cleverly manoeuvred them and captured the nest of two machine-guns and 18 men. He then led his platoon to the final objective, saving casualties by his skilful handling. He was a splendid example to his men.
