Original overseas unit Canadian Army Service Corps. Embarked from Canada on SS Olympia December 20, 1916, arriving in England on December 28. Arrived France August 1, 1917 and joined the P.P.C.L.I. in the field November 4, 1917.
The engagement in which Beaton was killed saw the PPCLI receive a substantial number of casualties, including their OC, Lt. Col. Stewart.
