Military Cross (Hill 70)
Description: Lt. Arthur Cecil Ross, Infy. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in evacuating wounded from the battle-field. His party consisted of fifty-two men, and he continually led them over exposed, ground to rescue the wounded under heavy shell and machine-gun fire. On three occasions he crawled out in front of our advanced posts under heavy fire and dressed and brought in wounded men. He also led up reinforcements and ammunition and supply parties, and it is sufficient tribute to his courage and fearlessness to add that when he and his gallant band were relieved after sixty hours' continuous duty there were only twelve men remaining out of the original fifty-two.
