LIEUTENANT. ALBERT EDWARD KINGHAM. Born 26th January 1892, at Swinford,Co Mayo,Ireland. Father Rev D.P.Kingham Clergyman. Educated at St Helens School Dublin Entered service with the Toronto Branch 12th June 1913. Enlisted in the 3rd Canadian Battalion August 1914 with the rank of Private. Transfered to 8th Service Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers 16th Irish Division as 2nd Lieutenant January 1915. Promoted Lieutenant 1st January 1916. Principal actions;Somme,1916 (With 16th (Irish) Division)
Awarded Two Parchment Certificates for Gallantry In The Field (24th June 1916 and 11th July 1916) Killed in Action 6th September 1916, while in command of a Company during a German counter-attack in Leuze Wood,near Ginchy and Guillemont.
*Note. The wording of one of the Certificates awarded to Lieutenant Kingham is as follows.
The Irish Brigade..Lieutenant A.E,Kingham, 8th Royal Irish Fusiliers. "I have read with much pleasure the reports of your Regimental Commander and Brigade Commander regarding your gallant conduct and devotion to dutyin the field on 11th July 1916, I have ordered your name and deed to be entered in the records of the Irish Division. Signed W.B.Hickie,Major-General, Commanding the 16th Irish Division.
