Cecil Bennett was born in Suffolk England on 3 April 1895.On 30 March 1905 a 10 year old Cecil Bennett leaves Liverpool England on the ship Kensington that arrives in the Winter Port of Portland Maine on 11 April 1905 with a group of Barnardo Home Children for Ontario destinations.On 4 Sept 1907 Barnardo Child Cecil Bennett was placed with the family of Ben Johnston in Caven Township Durham Ontario. On 7 October 1915 a 20 year old Cecil Bennett becomes an original member of the Peterborough Headquartered 93 Canadian Infantry Battalion. The 93rd Battalion was authorized on 22 December 1915 and when Private Bennett joins on 7 October 1915 he was Medically examined on 21 September 1915 and his Attestation form is signed by his 93rd Battalion Commanding Officer LT Col T J Johnston. Cecil Bennett had previous military experience of 1 year with the 3rd Dragoons.Cecil Bennett probably joined B Troop of the 3rd Prince of Wales Canadian Dragoons from Port Hope Northumberland and Durham then transferred to C Troop in Peterborough. The 93rd Peterborough Battalion sailed for England on 15 July 1916 until it was broken up by its only Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel T J Johnston on 6 October 1916 and Private Cecil Bennett is transferred to the 20th Canadian Infantry Central Ontario Regiment.On 9 April 1917 22 year old former Barnardo Child Private Cecil Bennett of the 20th Canadian Infantry Central Ontario Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade , 2nd Canadian Division is Killed in Action attacking Vimy Ridge
